This is an original antique engraved map, colored by hand, from Fullarton's Companion Atlas to the Gazetteer of the World. The title at the lower left reads "GREECE", with the line "CHIEFLY ACCORDING TO THE ENGLISH ADMIRALTY SURVEYS & KEIPERT". The map covers the kingdom from the Gulf of Arta and Thessaly south through Attica, Euboea and the Peloponnese to Cerigo, with the Ionian Islands along the left side and the Cyclades to the right. The Greek territory is colored by hand, and the mountains are shown by hachures.

At the upper right is an inset titled "THE NORTHERN IONIAN ISLANDS (BRITISH)", showing Corfu and Paxo with the facing Albanian coast, noted "Scale same as that of General Map". On the main map the southern islands are lettered "IONIAN ISLANDS (BRITISH)", and under Cerigo is the note "To the Ionian Ids (British)". The key notes that "Ancient names are in hairline and in brackets", as in "CERIGO (KYTHERA)" and "ZAKYTHO (ZANTE)". At the right is a table headed "DIVISION of GREECE", setting out Rumelia, Morea and the Islands by "Nomen" and "Eparchies", with an "EXPLANATION" and an "Alphabetical list of Greek appellations". Three scale bars give geographical miles, new Greek miles and new Greek stadia to the degree.

The cartouche reads "Drawn by AUGUSTUS PETERMANN F.R.G.S." and "ENGRAVED BY G.H. SWANSTON." There is no separate engraver's line below the border. The imprint, at the lower left below the border, reads "A. FULLARTON & Co. EDINBURGH, LONDON, & DUBLIN."

The sheet comes from The Companion Atlas to the Gazetteer of the World, published by A. Fullarton and Co. of London, Edinburgh and Dublin and issued to subscribers in parts. The printed wrapper of Part 7, which survives with these maps, bills the work as comprehending forty-three beautifully colored maps engraved by G. H. Swanston, and it is marked "Colored Copy". The Ionian Islands, lettered here as British, were a British protectorate until they were ceded to Greece in 1864.

This is an original antique map, not a modern reproduction. This item is sold unframed.
