This is an original antique map of the country around Dublin, printed by lithography with original hand coloring and dated 1885 by the atlas it comes from. The title panel at the lower left reads "THE ENVIRONS OF" over "DUBLIN" and "BY EDWD WELLER, F. R. G. S.", with a scale of British Statute Miles and the note "Railways & Stations shown thus" with the example Ballybrack.

Dublin Bay opens on the right side of the sheet with Howth, Ireland's Eye and Lambay Island to the north and Kingstown and Killiney Bay to the south. The city stands at the head of the bay, drawn in close street detail, with the Phoenix Park to its west. County Dublin is washed by hand in pale rose, Meath at the upper left in pale yellow, and Kildare on the left in pale gray, each lettered across the map. The lower half of the sheet is given to the Wicklow mountains, lettered "WICKLOW", modeled in heavy hachure, with Kippure, the Vale of Glendalough, Rathdrum, Ovoca and Wicklow town on the coast. Naas, Kilcullen, Blessington and Dunlavin lie on the western side. The railways run out from Dublin along the coast and inland toward Kildare, and the border is marked in degrees and minutes.

The sheet number in the lower right corner is cut by the trimmed edge.

It comes from The New Large Scale Ordnance Atlas of the British Isles, published in London by G. W. Bacon and Co., and is dated 1885 by the volume it was taken from; no date is printed on the sheet itself. Edward Weller (1819 to 1884) was a London map engraver and draftsman and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Vertical fold down the center from binding. Even age toning. Handling soiling along the left, right and top edges. A few small foxing spots in the margin. All four corners are present.

This is an original antique map, not a modern reproduction. This item is sold unframed.
